Best Free & Paid Squarespace Plugins

Squarespace has almost all of the features you’d want to have on a standard website, but for those special instances when you want to add a little extra, stand out from the competition, or make your user experience top-notch, here are a few of my favorite Squarespace plugins*. Please note that this post contains affiliate links, and I may earn a small commission if you choose to purchase the plugins.

  1. Universal Filter

A top favorite with Squarespace website owners and developers alike, the Universal Filter plugin from Squarewebsites can be used in so many different ways on your website. Do you want to add a dropdown filter to your team page to allow your website visitors to easily view your team members by department? Add sorting and filtering to your ecommerce or blog page? This plugin can do all that and more!

The Universal Filter is built to work with Squarespace’s List Collections such as Blogs and Galleries and blocks such as Summary Blocks that can use list collections. Before you buy the plugin, please do check out the information in What You Need to Know About the Universal Filter Plugin on their website to see if it meets your requirements.

You will require a little bit of coding knowledge to install and customize the plugin for your website. An installation guide and basic support (installing and activating the filter with basic configuration) is included with the purchase. Squarewebsites also offers paid support, or you can reach out to your Squarespace developer if you are already working with someone.

  2. Change Product Image with Variant

Wouldn’t it be just amazing to have your product thumbnails show the corresponding image when you choose a variant? Well, that’s exactly what this Sync Product Variant Image plugin from Sqspthemes does! If your website is not built on Squarespace 7.1, please check if your current template version is supported by this plugin before you purchase. If you are not comfortable installing the plugin on your own, you can use their paid Concierge Support option or hire your own Squarespace developer.

  3. Squarespace Lightbox Anything Plugin

The Squarespace Lightbox Anything Plugin is another highly flexible and customizable plugin from Sqspthemes and one of the most commonly requested features from my website clients. As the name suggests, you can use this plugin to lightbox almost anything on your Squarespace website - forms, images, videos, galleries (carousel galleries on 7.0 are not supported though), plain text, an entire page, etc.

It even comes with additional paid add-on features - upsell, gate, tooltip, and promo - that will allow you to set up an upsell for your ecommerce products, add a gate to specific pages (for example, to verify age), add a tooltip to a link, and promote a new offer or service when somene visits your website respectively.

  4. Mega Menu for Squarespace 7.1

I really can’t believe this Squarespace plugin is available for free, but it is! Will Myers’s Super Easy Mega Menu for Squarespace 7.1 is a super-awesome resource with a detailed step-by-step guide if you are looking to add a simple mega menu to your website. For a mega menu with more advanced features, check out his paid Pro version of the plugin. At just $25 for a single license, it’s a steal and adds so much value to your website! Myers also has a ton of free Squarespace CSS guides and tutorials that are a treasure trove of information.

  5. Sidebar Plugin

The sidebar plugin does exactly what it says - it allows you to add a sidebar to any page on your website. You can even have different sidebars on different pages on the same website. If you already have a blog and don’t want to go through the pain of manually adding a sidebar to all of the older posts, this one is for you!

  6. Ghost Plugins

Ghost Plugins has a vast resource of free code snippets and paid plugins that makes it so easy to create a custom Squarespace website. My top favorites among the free ones are the stretchy navigation line and the different summary block styles. Their Super Plugins library include a number of affordably-priced plugins for advanced summary block styles with hover animations, testimonial sliders, pricing tables, and more. If you are a designer and need to use plugins frequently, you could also check out their membership program.
